The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
Hey there,
In 1993, it took decades for innovations like color TVs or personal computers to reach 50 million users.
Today, apps like TikTok, Instagram, or ChatGPT hit that number in months.
Data flows faster than ever, notifications explode, and the world runs at a speed our 30-year-old selves couldn’t even imagine.
This velocity has brought incredible progress, but it has a cost: distraction, busyness, and a loss of focus.
We’ve forgotten that we have a choice.
We say yes too often, pile on responsibilities we don’t need, and watch as the trivial many drown out the vital few.
Greg McKeown’s Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less illustrates this perfectly.
Early in his career, he prioritized a client meeting over being fully present for his daughter’s birth.
Nothing great came from that meeting, but the lesson was profound: if you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.
Being an essentialist isn’t about doing less for the sake of it.
It’s about identifying what truly matters (relationships, work, health) and eliminating everything else.
Busyness is the new default, but the things that matter most deserve our yes.
Say no to the trivial, protect the vital few, and build your life around what really counts.
Have a wonderful week, all.
